Manitoba Class 5 Mock Exam — 30 Questions, 30 Minutes

Thirty questions, 30-minute clock, 24/30 to pass. This mock mirrors the real MPI Class 5 knowledge test — same question count, same time limit, same 80% pass mark — and ends when you can no longer reach 24 right.

How the mock is built

Every attempt draws 30 fresh questions at random from the full 500-question Manitoba bank — a mix of signs, signals, pavement markings, rules of the road, speed limits, impaired-driving law, Autopac insurance, and the three-stage GDL program. The clock runs for 30 minutes exactly like the real MPI sitting. Miss seven and the mock is over, since 24 is already out of reach.

Why 30 minutes matters

Manitoba is one of the few provinces that puts a clock on the written test. Thirty minutes is plenty of time — a steady pace of a minute per question gives you a cushion — but learners who freeze on a signs question or re-read every option twice can run out of clock. The mock enforces the same window on purpose. If you're finishing with less than five minutes to spare, that's a signal to drill signs and right-of-way until each one is a reflex, not a re-read.

Aim for two or three consecutive mock attempts of 27/30 or better, finishing with 10+ minutes to spare. That's the reliably-ready zone. A single 24/30 scrape through isn't a bookable result — it's a warning that one tricky draw tips you into the fail column.

How to read a failed attempt

The mock ends the moment 24 right is out of reach — a seventh wrong answer closes it. The results screen still shows which categories tanked so you know what to drill.

A failed signs score usually means you haven't spent enough time with sign categories — regulatory circles and octagons, warning diamonds, construction orange, information green, and school/playground fluorescent yellow-green each have their own shape and colour rules. The road signs drill fixes that. A failed rules score is usually about specific Manitoba numbers — the 50 km/h urban default, the 90 km/h PTH default, the midnight-to-5-a.m. 5I passenger rule — and those come back with the rules drill or the GDL drill.

Sample questions

Five sample questions from the Manitoba Class 5 mock exam, drawn from across the test's categories. Click each question to reveal the correct answer and the handbook chapter it comes from.

Q1. How many stages does Manitoba's Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) program have?
  • A. Two
  • B. Three ← correct
  • C. Four
  • D. Six

Why: Manitoba's GDL program has three stages — Class 5L (Learner), Class 5I (Intermediate), and Class 5F (Full). See the Manitoba Driver's Handbook — Graduated Driver Licensing.

Q2. What is the minimum age to apply for a Class 5L learner's licence in Manitoba WITHOUT the Driver Z high-school program?
  • A. 14
  • B. 15
  • C. 15½
  • D. 16 ← correct

Why: You must be 16 to apply for a 5L without the Driver Z program. Driver Z lets eligible high-school students start at 15½. See the handbook — Getting your licence.

Q3. On a Provincial Trunk Highway in rural Manitoba, the default speed limit where no sign is posted is:
  • A. 80 km/h
  • B. 90 km/h ← correct
  • C. 100 km/h
  • D. 110 km/h

Why: The default PTH speed limit is 90 km/h rural. Divided highways where posted can be 100 km/h. See the handbook — Speed limits.

Q4. Under the Highway Traffic Act, you must report a collision when:
  • A. Any damage occurs
  • B. Total damage is over $2,000 or anyone is injured ← correct
  • C. Only when a police officer requests it
  • D. Only when another driver complains

Why: Manitoba requires reporting if total damage exceeds $2,000 or anyone is injured, regardless of fault. See the handbook — Collisions and reporting.

Q5. The blood alcohol limit for all Class 5L and 5I drivers in Manitoba is:
  • A. 0.00 ← correct
  • B. 0.04
  • C. 0.05
  • D. 0.08

Why: Zero BAC applies at every GDL stage before Class 5F. See the handbook — Impaired driving.

Common questions

What score do I need to pass the MPI Class 5 test?

You need 24 correct out of 30 — 80%. The mock applies the same threshold.

Is the MPI Class 5 test timed?

Yes. The real MPI Class 5 knowledge test has a 30-minute time limit, and the mock runs the same 30-minute clock. Most learners finish well inside the window.

How soon can I retake the real test if I fail?

MPI generally lets you retest the next business day after paying the $10 test fee again. The service centre's own availability is the real limit, and there is no cap on attempts.

What ID do I need to bring?

Primary ID (passport, birth certificate, PR card, or citizenship document) plus a secondary piece showing name and photo or signature. Under 18, a signed parental or guardian consent form is required. Payment can be debit, credit, or cash.
